WHAT WE DO
Extrusion
SMK films are made internally with the blown film process utilizing sophisticated three-layer (A/B/C) coextrusion and six component automated gravimetric dosing to satisfy many demanding applications including form-fill, OTR, frozen, low-SIT and many for different types of specialty bags. All films are monitored by our complete in-house quality control laboratory.
Prepress
SMK performs all prepress functions in-house. This includes design, trapping, bar coding, color separation, and production of printing plates. Bringing all these functions in-house generates faster turn-around times and reduces costs.
Printing
Highly experienced pressmen with great equipment and materials make for excellent print capabilities and efficiencies. Two high speed eight color central impression flexographic printing presses with the ability to print up to 50" web width and 26" print repeat. Pantones or process printing on clear, colored or opaque films, surface or reverse printed, and always with excellent print quality.
Converting
First we extrude and print large rolls but then we need to convert those rolls into something our customers can use which is either smaller individual rolls or sideweld bags. When we convert bags we can bundle them with wire wickets or stack the bags loose into cartons. We can add vent holes, PTC zippers (open or closed), handle holes, flips (sandwich bag). Roll stock films are slit with eyeline edge guides and utilize films custom-made for Vertical or Horizontal Form-Fill-Seal (HFFS or VFFS) machinery. Wicketed bags are made for automatic packing lines or hand pack.

Certifications
As a manufacturer of direct food contact films and flexible packaging SMK maintains good manufacturing practices and manages all aspects of hazard control from raw material purchasing through delivery to customers, including traceability and recall capabilities. These internal programs are tied to our ongoing quality control programs and are audited by a third party regularly and we can provide the certificates to show successful audit results.
